Aurora BBQ dinner in Abisko
Our Aurora BBQ in Abisko is great and you stay warm while you wait for the northern lights to appear. We highly recommend it.
We start in our own BBQ hut alongside the hotel, with a beautiful view of Lake Torneträsk and there we BBQ a local Sami dish called ‘souvas’ with vegetables. The dinner will be cook in a very large dish in the center of the room over an open fire, in the old-fashioned Sami way. Souvas is made from lightly smoked reindeer meat and is delicious.
While the food is being fried, the guide tells about the Swedish Sami people and the history of Lapland. With the crackling fire in front of us and the quiet environment around us, it is a very appreciated dinner for our guests. You will also learn a lot about how many people live up in northern Sweden.
We enjoy the fire and the food and relax in the warm bbq hut while we wait for the northern lights to appear.
Once we are happy and full, we take the snowmobiles or minibuses out to find a great spot for seeing and photographing the aurora. We stop as soon as we see it and always have plenty of time for taking photos. Our guides can help you get a good shot, on your camera. Our best tip is to be patient, it can take time before the northern lights appear.
